The Most Expensive Fish

The most expensive fish ever bought is a bluefish tuna.

The Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, the world’s largest wholesale fish market, is a generally the place were records are set. Every year the price increases drastically, mainly as a result of over-fishing, which reduced stocks of some tuna species, nearing the point of extinction. On Saturday morning 5 January 2013, a bluefish tuna that weighed 490 pounds was sold for ¥155.4 million and was subsequently turned into sushi. Older records include a massive 754 pound tuna that was sold for $396,000 to the owners of the Kyubey restaurant chain in 2011. The record before that was $252,000 for a 445 pound tuna in 2001.
